The Ho Center for Buddhist Studies at Stanford University will be hosting a screening of Khata: Poison or Purity? by Assistant Professor Huatse Gyal on February 12 from 7-8:30pm. The film reveals how traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarves (khata), once symbols of blessing and reverence, have in their modern polyester form become environmental pollutants threatening rivers, livestock, and ecosystems. The film framing asks a provocative question: how can something intended as sacred also turn toxic when scaled and commodified?

After the screening, there will be a discussion with director Dr. Huatse Gyal and Prof. James Gentry.
