Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies

Expanding Horizons Award
Generously funded by Rice alumnus Dr. Walter Loewenstern, the Expanding Horizons Fellowship provides Rice graduate students the opportunity to conduct research-related future travel that will benefit the local communities connected to their research while expanding the student's knowledge and experience.

Wagoner Foreign Study Scholarship
James T. Wagoner '29 loved to travel, and he loved Rice, so he made provisions that after his death a study-abroad scholarship for students and alumni would be established in memory of his late wife and parents. The Wagoner Foreign Study Scholarship provides students and alumni the opportunity to conduct future research abroad for a minimum of four weeks to one year.

Social Sciences Research Institute

SSRI is a research funding entity for Rice social sciences faculty and graduate students. It provides seed funds and other awards to promote cutting-edge research in the social sciences.

Dissertation Research Improvement Grants
Grants awarded annually to support or partially support dissertation research projects proposed by graduate students in the School of Social Sciences who have completed their coursework and have advanced to candidacy or will advance to candidacy by the time the DRI awards are made.

Pre-Dissertation Research Improvement Grants
Grants that support graduate students conducting preliminary research related to their dissertations so that they may prepare stronger dissertations and submit more competitive dissertation research applications to other funding sources.
