Yesmar Oyarzun, Rice Anthropology Graduate Student, has been awarded an NSF award for her research on dermatology residents in the US. Dermatology has recently been reckoning with a lack of resources on and awareness of skin diseases experienced by people with dark skin. Yesmar's research explores how residents learn to see and treat skin diseases in this context.
